While Shohei Ohtani and Seiya Suzuki hit homers on the first day of MLB playoffs, it was Masataka Yoshida who highlighted the day. He even made history as the first player in MLB history to have a go-ahead hit on the first pitch. With two outs in the top of the seventh inning, Yoshida pinch hits with one out after Nick Sogard doubles. He's happy, and the Red Sox are happy.
With the Chicago Cubs trailing against the San Diego Padres in the fifth inning, Seiya Suzuki homers to give new life to the game. Then, everything came together seamlessly, and the team ultimately won by a score of 3-1. Suzuki has now homered in five straight games all the way back to the regular season. He is red-hot. Game 2 begins at 12:08 pm EST.
Shohei Ohtani started his 2025 postseason in his very first at-bat, setting the pace for the Dodgers' 10-5 victory over the Cincinnati Reds. Yoshinobu Yamamoto, his fellow countryman, is slated to start at 6:08 pm EST tonight on October 1st.
The most impressive hit last night did not come from Ohtani or Suzuki, but rather from the most overlooked Japanese star for the last couple of seasons, Masataka Yoshida. Trailing all day long, he came into the plate in a resolute, focused manner to give his team the lead. And now, the Red Sox are one victory away from eliminating the Yankees' hopes of returning to the World Series. If the Red Sox end up advancing to the World Series, we can look back at that RBI single he hit for the reason why they made it there. But who knows? They might even win it all.
