Wow! That was a close one. Munetaka Murakami’s postseason debut could only be described as successful. He had 2 runs scored and an RBI. The 8th inning was a close one, as an error, as they described it, managed to score a run for the Astros. Did Munetaka Murakami’s foot actually not touch the base when he caught the ball from Miguel Vargas? That was just too close to call either way, and it took the umps some time to reach a conclusion on the White Sox’s challenge.
This game wasn’t smooth, but the White Sox got the job done and now lead the 3-game series 1-0. To put it into perspective, in the 12 years that the 3-game structure has been in play in the wild card, only one team has managed to come back from a 0-1 deficit. The 3-game series is so difficult to come back from. The only time it actually happened was last year, in 2025, when the Yankees beat the Red Sox. Oddly enough, the Red Sox and Yankees meet again in a 3-game series, but this time, the Yankees win Game 1. Baseball is pretty wild indeed.
Just by making the playoffs this season, there’s no denying that this season is a success for the White Sox, who have been the subject of ridicule for their back-to-back terrible seasons in 2024 and 2025. No one can forget that. But what a turnaround. Could it be because of Murakami? That’s a debate. One thing is certain: the vibe changed. Something just clicked, and whether it’s Murakami or not, it really doesn’t matter. The White Sox are in the playoffs. That’s a level of success that no one ever imagined. The White Sox win!
