The Padres' scandal will hurt chances for Roki Sasaki

The disadvantage the Padres had in signing Roki Sasaki only grew worse. We can't deny this at all. For a young man like Roki Sasaki thinking of joining a great organization, he must be greatly aware of the infighting with the team's owners.

In summary, Sheel Siedler, the widowed wife of Padres owner Peter Siedler, is suing her in-laws to gain control of the trust that governs the team. Sheel Siedler claimed that her in-laws had mistreated her, using what she described as racist and hateful communications.

Sheel Siedler, a woman of Indian descent, ran the Padres with her late husband, making her an integral part of a championship-building team. For this reason, she claimed, her in-laws spread malicious attacks on her character.

According to Matthew Siedler, the brother of Peter Siedler, John was designated as the team's control person, making John the person to make big management decisions. The lawsuit caught him by surprise. In his own words, he wrote in a statement,

"When Peter became the Control Person, Sheel signed a sworn document in which she acknowledged that she had no right to be or designate the Control Person and agreed that if Peter passed away, she would not seek any order in any legal proceeding that would in any way restrain the control of the Club or the duties of the designated Control Person."

Sheel, Peter's widowed wife, asserts that she has a handwritten letter confirming Peter's desire for her to assume control of the franchise. She sees it as a last resort. In a statement, she said,

"I made this decision as a very last resort, but I am confident it is the right one and the best way to protect the Padres franchise and ensure the vision that Peter and I shared for the team will continue."

In response, the Peter Siedler Trust called the lawsuit "entirely without merit."

Matthew and John, grandsons of the late owner of the Dodgers MLB team, are left in a pickle. Surprised and bewildered, they feel compelled to fight back to take what they see as their birthright. Who would blame them? Family legacy.

But who's in the wrong here?

Did Matthew intimidate Sheel into silence to not speak against the appointment of John Siedler, the person the trustee appointed as the control person? This has yet to be revealed, but whether true or not, this is a no-win situation for Sheel and the O'Malley descendants. Typically, infighting leads to the sale of the team that the two parties are fighting for. So, who wins?

The more this goes on, the more likely it is that Roki Sasaki would not want to be part of such controversy and drama. Does anyone want to start their MLB career with that? I reckon not.
