Travis d'Arnaud, Constant Professionalism

Travis d'arnaud is underrated.

Travis d'Arnaud is not a superstar like the other Asian players in MLB, but he was a silver slugger and a World Series champion in 2021. He was a third-option catcher when he became a Dodger; however, his stint with the Dodgers was short-lived, as he was traded to the Tampa Bay Rays before landing with the Atlanta Braves. His longest stint with a team was with the New York Mets.

The Long Beach native grew up in a musical family. At the same time, in a community with a strong baseball tradition, he naturally became involved in baseball.

When looking at his career, his accomplishments have gone unnoticed even when he became the third catcher in history to have multiple games with 3 or more home runs. He did so become in April.

The thing I admire about Travis d'Arnaud the most is his constant professionalism. He may not play every day nor be a team's main catcher, but he makes the best of each moment. In game two of the World Series against the Houston Astros, when his team, the Atlanta Braves needed to respond, he hit a home run to tie the game. Although the Astros ended up winning the game, it was a testament to how he responds to adversity. He is not a superstar, but he is a constant professional. He has played for the New York Mets, Los Angeles Dodgers, Tampa Bay Rays, and the Atlanta Braves. In 2022, he became an All-Star; in 2021, he became a World Series champion; in 2020, he won a Silver Slugger Award, all achieved with the Braves. He is one of the most underrated players in MLB.

For the 2024 season, Travis is hitting .264 with 11 homers, 35 RBIs, and 56 hits.

Shohei Ohtani

On August 5th, 2024, Shohei Ohtani hit his 34th homer. With this, he has over 30 stolen bases, leading many to believe he could be the 6th player in MLB history to achieve 40 homers and 40 stolen bases in a single season. I do, however, think it is possible he will reach something higher: 50 homers and 50 stolen bases in a single season. I am not saying that he will do it, but it is possible. There are about 49 games left in the season. It will be interesting when he hits his 40th homer of the season, especially if there are still 25 games left. The reason why I think this is possible is because there are a reasonable amount of games left to accomplish this feat. This means it is more likely he will be MVP of the 2024 season.

On August 5th, Shohei went 2-3, had 2 RBIs, and scored 1 run. Not a bad day for a Japanese superstar.

Seiya Suzuki

Though left off the game yesterday August 5th, 2024, there is a chance he could be back today, but since he is listed as day-to-day, we may not know until game time today. He is dealing with neck stiffness. He has been incredibly sharp the last 21-22 games for the Cubs, hitting 4 homers, 2 triples, 7 doubles while slashing .325/.407/.613 in that stretch.

It is becoming clear that the Cubs will not be able to make the playoffs this year. They are 5th in their division, 9 games behind the Milwaukee Brewers, and 5 games behind a wild card spot. The Cubs will have to play perfect baseball while the teams in front of them would have to merely have a disastrous stretch. One or two of the 8 teams may, but it is difficult to imagine all the other 6 teams will.

The Cubs promoted 3 of their top prospects to Triple-A. This, to me, indicates a sense of desperation because it may be a move to ease a promotion to the majors in the next 25 games or so when it becomes even more evident that they will not make the playoffs. This is a good move since it will give one or two or all three of them a chance to gain some MLB experience.
