It was a tough last week for Asian baseball. Lee Jung Hoo, the South Korean superstar injured his shoulder while trying to catch a fly ball hit by Jeimer Candelario of the Cincinnati Reds. The play appeared to have been a simple one. It was very acrobatic in terms of how high he had to jump to catch the ball. Because of the force it created as he accelerated in speed to catch the ball, he dislocated his shoulder upon making contact with the wall. This undermines San Francisco's talent pool, as the team had been battling a series of injuries by several players including Michael Conforto, Jorge Soler, Tom Murphy, and Nick Ahmed.
A dislocated shoulder's recovery time can take days and even months, depending on whether the shoulder requires surgery. Before the injury, Lee had recently come back from a foot injury. A final diagnosis has yet to be made on how to approach his injury with care. The thing about shoulder injuries is that they rarely have a short recovery time. We just have to remain hopeful that he doesn't need surgery. If he does, it could take months for him to come back in action.
